The Wiffle Ball Story: How the Mullany Family Turned an Idea into a Home Run.
For over 50 years, Wiffle Ball has been one of the favorite summertime traditions of boys and girls throughout the country. And it all started because, try as he might, a 12 year-old couldn’t figure out how to throw a curveball. Figuring out how to solve his son’s plight gave David J. Mullany the idea that spawned a family business, one that has been hailed as an American institution and that has spawned countless creative uses for a simple piece of plastic (wedding favors? homemade submarine flotation aids?). David J Mullany’s grandsons, Stephen and David N Mullany, run the business now, and they join Ron to discuss the story of Wiffle Ball, and how such a simple idea has remained a constant of backyards and summertime for generations.
Business and Health: Shaking Your Beliefs about Salt.
For centuries, the use of salt as a food additive and ingredient has been commonplace among food consumers of all ages around the world. But in recent years, there has been a heightened focus on the health implications of too much salt in ones diet, particularly as a result of the U.S. government’s regulatory policies. According to Lori Roman of the Salt Institute, this focus is misguided. As part of the “Business and Health” portion of American Entrepreneur Radio, Lori talks with Dr. Will Clower of Mediterranean Wellness about the benefits of salt in a diet, and why she believes that the government should focus on more important matters in the country.
